I’ve been drivin’ all night, my hand’s wet on the wheel
There’s a voice in my head that drives my heel
It’s my baby callin’, says I need you here
And it’s a half past four and I’m shiftin’ gear
There’s a voice in my head that drives my heel
It’s my baby callin’, says I need you here
And it’s a half past four and I’m shiftin’ gear
When she is lonely and the longing gets too much
She sends a cable comin’ in from above
Don’t need no phone at all
She sends a cable comin’ in from above
Don’t need no phone at all
We’ve got a thing that’s called radar love
We’ve got a wave in the air, radar love
We’ve got a wave in the air, radar love
When I get lonely and I’m sure I’ve had enough
She sends her comfort comin’ in from above
We don’t need no letter at all
We’ve got a thing that’s called radar love
We’ve got a light in the sky, radar love
We’ve got a thing that’s called radar love
We’ve got a light in the sky, radar love
Kris and I have “Our Song” it’s called Radar Love, by Golden Earring. When we first were married, we were both active duty and going to training and field exercises and so on. We had our share of deployments, missed birthdays and anniversaries. Even during the separations, sometimes thousands of miles apart, we could feel our love for each other. I would look at the moon, knowing she too was looking at the same moon, and this song would go through my head and we would send Radar Love.
Once again we are separated. Separated by something much more powerful than miles or military orders. At times it feels like a vast gulf of separation; an abyss…
And then, in a moment, there she is. Smiling at me. As I walk in the room she excitedly says, “There you are” as if she hadn’t seen me in awhile, and reaches for me and starts talking a mile a minute. Sometimes she will, out of the blue, say “I LOVE you!”
When I get lonely and I’m sure I’ve had enough
She sends her comfort comin’ in from above
She sends her comfort comin’ in from above
We don’t need no letter at all
We’ve got a thing that’s called radar love
We’ve got a light in the sky, radar love
We’ve got a thing that’s called radar love
We’ve got a light in the sky, radar love
Many of my posts describe what we have lost. One thing we haven’t lost is our love for each other. I see it in her eyes, I read it in her body language, I hear it in her laugh.
It’s true, we have experienced loss, but we still have our Radar Love.
A true love story…
